Owner's Description

Picked up for $5.50 on ebay already slabbed! I had heard of Astro City, but was not too familiar with it. I knew this issue featured the first appearance of a few of its characters.

Originally called Romeyn Falls until its rebuilding after WWII, when it was renamed in honor of Astro-naut, a superhero who gave his life to save the city. It's the Seat of Hood County. Astro city is split into a variety of Neighborhoods, each with its own unique feel. Some of the most recognizable are: The haunted immigrant laden Shadow Hill, where no sane man would be out at night and the sinister hero the Hanged Man floats through the streets. The city center, a neomodern teeming metropolis of mega-towers which represents the city to all who don't live there. Keifer Square, a slum for the neer-do-well wannabes that we know and love to hate. No matter where you are in Astro City, the most notable thing is the heroism. Not only are Super-heroes found in every concievable nook and cranny (eventually), but also the people themselves get out there and do their own little bit to save the day. Ironically, the super heroes drive people in as tourists and due to their regular insanely powered battles in the city keep them away, while the plain old heroes nobody knows about bring them there to stay. Please note that Astro City was originally published by IMAGE and is now published by HOMAGE, a division of Wildstorm. Astro City is CREATOR-OWNED, not a DC property
