Owner's Description

Issue #35 introduces the Aerialist. Searching for the Aerialist as Green Lantern, Hal is taken off guard when the Aerialist uses a device to change Green Lantern's mask into gold. With Green Lantern his prisoner, he demands that Green Lantern use his power ring to destroy the Ferris Aircraft Companies property. However, Hal gets the gold mask off with static electricity and beats the Aerialist in hand to hand combat in spite of the Aerialists acrobatic skill.

Our 9.8 comes from the Pacific Coast Collection and is one of four highest graded as of May 2020. The Pacific Coast Collection is generally considered to be the greatest Silver Age collection to ever surface. It was brought to market by Robert Roter after he discovered portions of it for sale on eBay in 1999. The books were marketed through PCE over the next several years and contained over 7,000 comics and magazines that included Marvel, DC, and Gold Key among others, covering a time span between 1961 and 1977. Many of the highest graded Marvel and DC issues from the early '60s hail from this collection with exceptional page quality. The books do not exhibit any distinguishing markings.

When we acquired this book in the 3/13/2012 CL auction, it was single highest graded, so needless to say, our cost basis in this one is probably over market based on the number of 9.8s graded by CGC since then.

2022 Update: There are now 5 9.8s topping the census. Oh well, at least it’s the only Pacific Coast pedigree of that group.
