Issue #49. The Governor is dead. The prison is over run with zombies. Rick and Carl are on the road. The story opens up with Tyreese's head on the grass becoming zombified and Michonne stabbing her sword through his head. She walks past the ruins of prison and into the wild world.
Rick and Carl are walking on the road looking for food and water and shelter. They go inside an abandoned convenience store and are attacked by zombie. Rick barely fights off the zombie when Carl shoots it in the head. The gun fire draws more walkers n the open. Rick and Carl run into an abandoned house and take up shelter. Rick is in pain from a battle wound on his belly. Infection is making him sick and feverish. Luckily he finds a bottle of antibiotics and downs some of the pills.
Father and son rest up next to the fireplace. Carl shares his grief with his father. Rick passes out. It seems that his injury is more serious than we thought. Carl is alone in the house with his unconscious father, in a world full of undead cannibals. Carl has never been in a situation like this before.
