A key book! 1st appearance of The Governor. The Best Defense 3 of 6. 4/2006. At the prison Tyreese and Axel wait by the gate for Rick and the others. Rick's group follow the tracks from the helicopter and come to a sign that reads "Woodbury". Rick feels the survivors are here. Meanwhile at the prison, Lori tells her son Carl he will have his own cell when Rick gets back. Tyreene is being ateam player to wait all night by the gate in case the group comes back. Axel is seeming to turn out to be a good egg and everyone goes to sleep. Rick, Glenn and Michonne arrive at Woodbury. Suddenly voices tell them to get down to the ground and somebody shoots the zombies.Rick gets up and a survivor drags Rick and the others into Woodbury, "The last town on earth". Wes takes their weapons, and a survivor introduced as Caesar Martinez tells them that it is their way to make sure it is safe. He says he can lead them to town where a man introduced as The Governor awaits. He then takes them to an arena filled with zombies. The issue ends with the Governor telling them he feeds strangers to zombies.
