This book is the most popular of the run, probably followed by issue 87, Annual 2, and issue 16. The funny thing is as I was collecting this run in a graded 9.8 this issue was my 98th of my set. What a coincidence? Louise Simonson finished her last book with the previous issue. Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza created one of the most popular characters to ever come out of the nineties. I wonder if twenty years from now they will be looked upon like Len Wein, Herb Trimpe, and John Romita Sr.
If I remember I did purchase two. One I did get graded by CGC which attained a 9.6. The other I disposed of in my purge. I can't say I regret it, but I can't say I am happy about it either. My first New Mutants, issue 15, received the 4.5 and my issue 99 received a 9.8. This showed how I changed throughout the years, from shoving the books in my sock drawer to bagging and boarding them in specially made boxes.
I purchased this with my graded copy of issue #87 from Comics to Astonish. I did trade that one with Shivabali for a Todd McFarlane signed copy. Maybe I will get my 9.6 copy signed, and if I do...there is the chance for a press. I'd really be interested if that would improve the grade. It would be really cool to have two 9.8's...that I would never sell anyway.
