"Captain Marvel Gets the Heir"

A millionaire is offering to leave his fortune to any orphan who can prove he's his grandson by having a half moon birthmark on his right shoulder. A ton of orphans show up at the old man's mansion including Billy Batson. Strangely his last servant picks that day to quit and the orphans from some reason are acting like animals. I mean they are literally climbing the drapes and Billy has to transform to keep the place from getting wrecked. The old man sees the work Capt. Marvel did and assumes he's the new help and he's ordered to feed the children. Oddly he makes them pancakes even though he was ordered to prepare supper.

That night a dark figures begins checking the boys for birthmarks as they sleep and discovers the heir (lucky for him the boys were all sleeping with their shirts off. He grabs the boy and ATTEMPTS TO THROW HIM OUT A WINDOW!! Capt. Marvel hears the boy and catches him before he hits the ground. Cap goes to tell the old man's adult nephew what happened but he shows no interest and it's clear to the reader that the nephew was the perpetrator of the crime.

Next morning the nephew continues to order Marvel around like a manservant and for some reason he takes it. The nephew takes the children out a tries to murder the young boy by drowning and this time appears to be successful but a bit later Marvel finds the young boy hiding and he tells Cap what happened. When the nephew sees Cap and the boy he tries to kill Marvel with no success. In the end it turned out the nephew got the wrong boy anyway and he's taken to justice.

"The Chimes of Crime"

Mr. Morris sends Billy to a small town to investigate some murders. He discovers that every time a murder occurs the
bells in an old tower ring. When Billy goes to investigate a Quasimodo type figure throws a boulder at him from above. Billy transforms to avoid be squashed and heads inside the tower but the agile little man manages to escape up into the tower. Capt. Marvel arrives at the bell but the dwarf has vanished and all he finds is a badly beaten body tied to the bells clapper.

The next day Billy, the Sheriff and a couple of men check out the tower again but find nothing. The rest of the man leave not believing Billy but Billy heads back inside only to get kidnapped and gagged by the dwarf. Billy is tied inside the bell and the fiend attempts to ring the bell to bludgeon Billy to death. In an incredible stroke of luck a bat flies near Billy knocking away the gag and causing the bell to shatter on Capt. Marvel's indestructible head. The crashing bell causing the whole tower to collapse killing the dwarf.

Turns out the dwarf was a man thought long dead who was taking revenge on the people who had accidentally buried him alive.
