SET DETAILS
Owner's Description
The Set: This set has three beginnings. The first beginning is a sixteen year old boy walking into a comic book shop and seeing issue ten on the shelf. That sixteen year old boy was blown away by the Frank Miller cover, dynamic brush work of Goseki, and stark realism and hyper violence of Koike. The second beginning is a thirty year old man finally getting to finish reading this epic story, finally published in English in its entireity. I had to wait fourteen years to finish the story. It was worth it. The third beginning is Sean Harmon, one of my best friends, giving me this specific copy, signed at Koike's first and only (at the time) American appearance. That appearance was 7/22/06. A forty year old man began this set in 2012 based on this book. If this was the only book in this set, I would consider it a success.
First Pic:
The 9.8 First Book:Mike Gold, Alex Wald, Ken Levin signatures.
The 9.6 Koike: Sean believes (and I agree) that there were likely less than five Koike yellow labeled books from this 2006 signing, and therefore, from 2006-2013, the only copies. This remains the ONLY silver signed Koike that I have ever seen, and I feel strongly that I have seen more Koike's than anyone else.
Second Pic: Two GLOD's redeemed for posterity.
The Cover: This is a Frank Miller and Lynn Varley cover- their last of twelve. As a teen, this was one of my least favorites of their twelve covers, but as I've matured, I see the depth and difficulty of this highly symbolic piece.
Notes from Sean: This book was originally owned by Chris Moore (thecollector), then purchased by Harley-Troy.
