Now Issue #73 is a cool cover. As Green Lantern returns to the city, he finds people racing to flee from amorphous ghosts trapped inside of a hotel. But this is merely a trap in which to bait Green Lantern. Hal disperses the ghostly apparitions only to find something even more disturbing. Carol Ferris has become Star Sapphire again.
Green Lantern and Star Sapphire battle, but Hal's will power is stronger than hers. As a last ditch effort to defeat her enemy, Star Sapphire transports Hal into outer space – robbed of all memory of ever being Green Lantern.
I owned a 9.6 copy of this issue when I got into a bidding war for this copy in the 11/30/2017 CL auction. This book to my eyes is perfect and the single highest graded copy of this issue. It also benefits from coming from a relatively recent pedigree, at least during my period as a collector.
The John G. Fantucchio collection is a CGC recognized pedigree that reportedly includes nearly every comic published by Marvel and DC Comics from the inception of the Marvel era through the mid-70s. The books were collected by artist John G. Fantucchio and stored in ideal conditions. The result is a collection of beautifully preserved comic books with bright, bold colors and near newsstand-fresh page quality. John Fantucchio was one of the most prominent artists during the early days of comic fandom. He created hundreds of covers and illustrations for fanzines such as Rocket's Blast Comic Collector, Fantastic Fanzine, and the Comic Crusader.
Despite all that hype, which I admittedly lifted from the listing of the book-hey you buy the book, you buy the hype-there is no doubt I overpaid for this book. I just hope it’s reign atop the census is not a short one.
