Story summary: Rick has passed out on the floor and Carl forces him to wake up. Suddenly, Rick starts to mumble and shift, causing Carl to think that he's reanimating. He's about to shoot him, but, doesn't because he notices Rick is still breathing. Carl starts to cry and says that he doesn't know what to do, before falling asleep.

In the morning, Rick's burning up. Carl puts a towel on his forehead and shouts that he must wake up. Suddenly, a couple of zombies start banging at the door. Carl drags Rick in front of the door, and sneaks out the backdoor. He leads the zombies away from the door and around the corner to another building; however, a third zombie comes up behind him and Carl falls. At the last moment, Carl manages to shoot the three zombies in the head. He stands up, vomits, and smiles with relief.

After defeating the zombies and back in the house, Carl decides that he no longer needs his father to survive. He blames him for failing to protect Lori and Judith, as well as the rest of their previous party and says he'd be fine if Rick died. Later that night, Rick lies up and moans, reaching for Carl who aims his gun at him tearfully. Rick has briefly gained consciousness and tells him he's sick, pleading with Carl to stay indoors and safe. Carl agrees and holds Rick's head, taking back what he said about not needing his father's protection. Carl says that he's scared, and falls asleep again.
