This book is widely considered the Holy Grail of the Copper Age! Along with an extremely low print run of merely 3,000 copies, the jet black cover makes it nearly impossible to locate high-grade raw copies that would grade as a CGC 9.4 or higher!
As a matter of fact, according to the CGC Census Report as of April 24, 2018, out of a total of 793 copies graded, only twenty-three (23) copies (including my copy) were graded as a Universal 9.8, one (1) copy was graded as a Qualified 9.8, and only two (2) copies were graded as a Signature Series 9.8! With these statistics in mind, a CGC Universal copy of TMNT #1 in 9.8 represents a rarity factor of only 2.9%!
With the 2017 Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide listing a NM- 9.2 copy at $4,500, which is $1,000 more than what a NM- 9.2 copy of Incredible Hulk #181 is listed as, TMNT #1 in CGC 9.8 is destined to sell in the 6 figure range within 10 years from now!
