Owner's Description
This low-grade Batman 181 is the first Bat-family villain “first appearance” that I added to my collection. To be honest, I wasn’t even looking for this book as I browsed eBay, but when I saw it and saw that it was within my meagre budget at the time, I had to have it... And with that simple purchase, I ignited a new passion and collecting focus - first appearances of villains!
Poison Ivy was originally created by Robert Kanigher and Sheldon “Shelly” Moldoff, first appearing in this book in June of 1966.
While the character was, in part, inspired by a short story called “Rappaccini’s Daughter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne - introducing the themes of caring for and tending plants and becoming resistant to their poisons while also becoming poisonous to others, her look was inspired by Bettie Page. Over the years, Ivy’s look has evolved with the times and today the name is synonymous with pure sultry seduction - captured perfectly by Sideshow Toys with their premium format statue.
