ComicLink May Auction Will Feature the Highest-Graded Batman #1!

Posted on 3/19/2010

Certified 9.0 by CGC, this is a rare beauty!

CGC has just learned that a Batman #1 in CGC 9.0, the highest grade that CGC has ever certified for this premiere issue, has been consigned to ComicLink's auction division and will be offered in the May ComicLink Featured Auction. Batman #1, published in 1940, is one of the most important comic books ever. This issue solidified DC's commitment to Batman and paved the way for the hero to dominate thousands of DC storylines throughout the next 70 years! Batman also encounters two of the most enduring antagonists for the very first time in this landmark first issue -- the sultry Catwoman and the criminally insane Joker! Along with Batman, both of these villains have crossed over into the mainstream media, appearing in television and in the movies.

Of every character within DC's stable of heroes, Batman’s popularity is perhaps the most enduring. Bruce Wayne is endowed not with super powers, but with a unique determination that drives him toward superior effort and superior insight, enabling Batman to do superhuman things. Universally relatable to us all as human beings, the character has remained a cultural icon for a long time. It is likely that Batman will continue to be a favorite of hobbyists, movie-goers and children all around the world for many generations to come.

“The excitement I have for this Batman #1 is strongest when I think about just how infrequently such an important, premiere Golden Age issue comes to market in a grade as high as VFNM 9.0,” said Josh Nathanson, ComicLink Founder and CEO. “It is extremely rare for a top-tier book like this to present on the threshold of Near Mint and these issues are almost never offered for sale in a grade superior to VF 8.0.”

Other exceptional comic books and comic art are also slated for the ComicLink May auction, among them All-American Comics #16 CGC 6.0 (first Green Lantern) X-Men #1 CGC 9.4, Tales of Suspense #39 CGC 9.2 (first Iron Man), and original art by Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and other iconic comic book artists.
