Stan Lee and CGC Signature Series Opportunity Raise $6,000 for The Hero Initiative!

Posted on 7/19/2007

In conjunction with the San Diego Comic Con, The Hero Initiative offered six people the opportunity of a lifetime to meet Stan Lee on a yacht for a 45 minute private meeting.

Hero’s special offering is to begin with a lunch prior to meeting Stan Lee courtesy of Hero Board Member and CGC President Steve Borock. Lunch will be with Steve Borock and System Of A Down’s drummer extraordinaire and life long comic collector, John Dolmayan. Lunch is then followed by a photo opportunity and face time with Stan Lee aboard the Illusion TV Yacht, anchored in the beautiful San Diego Marina right behind the convention center. In addition, Mr. Lee will sign two comic books provided by each winning bidder. Comics will then be certified by CGC with the prestigious Signature Series label.

Eighteen different bidders competed for six slots aboard the yacht with Stan Lee, bringing the price to $1,000 each, and raised $6,000 for The Hero Initiative. The auction was conducted on eBay.

As a lasting memento, The Hero Initiative will also be adding a page on their website that commemorates the event. This special page will feature the winners with scans of their Stan Lee CGC Signature Series books along with their photo of Stan Lee and their name underneath the picture.

"CGC is very proud to be involved with Hero, and very grateful of Stan Lee for his participation as well. Supporting Hero is one of the most important ways a comic book collector can show his or her appreciation by giving back a little to the people who helped make our hobby what it means today," comments Steve Borock.

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for the essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment. For more information on The Hero Initiative, visit www.heroinitiative.org.
