“I grew up on comics, Marvel in particular, and this is the foundation of it all! I personally oversaw the signing of these books by Stan “The Man” Lee and that in itself was an honor. The least we could do is give a little love back to our elder statesman,” said Mike Wellman, co-owner of the Comic Bug. The store opened its doors in Manhattan Beach, CA in 2004.

“This is such a great thing that Stan and the generous people at Comic Bug is doing for our hobby,” said Steve Borock, CGC president and primary grader. “If everyone in our wonderful hobby were like these fine people, The Hero Initiative would not be needed, but sadly that is not the case. I am proud to be part of this amazing charity and am even happier that CGC could help out as well!”

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment. For more information, visit www.HeroInitiative.org or call 310-909-7809.
