Set Description:
I decided to share images of a number of really hard to find Cry for Dawn (CFD) items. Hope you enjoy!
Before CFD was published, there was this little 'ashcan' printed called 'Sex and Death' - if you look closely, you will see two different copyright dates. The first printing was 1989 and was limited to 100 copies, was released prior to CFD. The 2nd printing has a copyright date of 1991 and was limited to only 50 copies - they were included in CFD Binder editions (more to come on that later). I did cover up some parts on these covers for this pic.
Also, previous to CFD being published - the CFD team shopped around the book to publishers - ultimately they all passed and the series was self-published, but here is a photocopy of issue #1 that was shopped around - pre-dates issue #1.
Many consider this to be the holy grail of CFD, I present the original CFD Binder edition. This thing was crazy expensive even back in the 1990s, if you could find one. Limited to a mere 50 copies. Tons of unique stuff in here, tons of signatures. All prints of the first 3 issues all double signed. Binder is double signed on inside. I blurred a couple images before posting here. This may be the best remaining copy in the world? Many were broken up, books removed, others the binders got beat up. There are probably only a handful remaining, and even less in great shape. The books and inserts are minty. I had been looking for a copy for over a decade. Very lucky and glad to have grabbed this one.
For those not into binders, they may consider the Horror Con #3 to be the holy grail of CFD. Print run is believed to be around 400 total copies - but these can be difficult to authenticate.
How about a 2nd binder (Church of. Dawn) that came out at the end of the CFD run? Includes a #8 limited - I'm not sure how many of these they made? But this one is in great shape. Double signed (and sketched) on inside cover - has pin, sticker, and a church of dawn membership card. Lots of inserts which are abbreviated in these pics, along with portfolio images.
I do have one other CFD binder, it was reflecting on the split up of the company - JML and Joe Monks. Some interesting stuff in there, but decided to leave it out of this set.
Hope you've enjoyed seeing these really rare items - I have other cool CFD stuff as well, maybe I'll share more on my next major update?

I've been putting this ultra high grade set together for over a decade, normally, I don't put my books in the registry, but these ones are so tough, I really wanted to display them here. I have always been drawn to Linsner's artwork and in particular, his Dawn character.
All blue universal labels with white pages - all 9.8s, with the exception of 1 book, a 9.6 #7 limited (zero 9.8s on census). Many CFD copies were signed before CGC existed, so they would be in green qualified labels. Only green label in this set is the signed/numbered compilation prevue, and that is by design.
Front and Back Cover scans for the complete 22 issue set.
This set is nearly impossible to find in such high grade, as rusty staples plague the higher issues and EVERY minor defect shows up in the cardstock covers, which cannot be pressed out like a traditional comic book cover.
If you are reading this and happen to have any higher graded books than me and interested in selling please contact me.
Update 3/6/2024 - just added a 9.8 #5 limited - last modification to set was 2/9/2021, so over 3 years since last update. Down to only needing 1 more 9.8. A #7 limited and there are zero still on census all these years later.
*May 2026 update - added a bunch of new pics in this description - really tough CFD stuff to find, rarely (if ever) seen - added a couple new books to set during 2025, one was just a nicer looking 9.8 #9 Limited, but no point change there - the other was a #7 Limited - I added a CGC+JSA copy in 9.6 - still have a 9.6 universal copy as well, but the signed copy is worth more registry points, so added to this set. STILL looking for a 9.8 #7 limited - only issue to go - 25 years CGC has been grading books and there are still zero on census, so wild. I have sent in a number of copies myself, including one a couple months ago that I thought had a shot at 9.8, thought the search might be over, but it came back a 9.6. Disappointing, but the hunt continues!
