Set Description:
With my decision to create this set shortly after the turn of the century, I remained a comic book reader, but I changed from a "casual" collector of raw comics into a "serious" collector of comic books professionally graded and slabbed by CGC.
My set started life with the Bronze Age run of issues numbers #94 to #143 . Initially I purchased the comics as raw books and had them slabbed by CGC.
I added slabbed copies of the remaining issues in the run and of some Silver Age issues in the set as well.
I then started collecting other Marvel titles and other Marvel key issues as well, and cut back on building this set.
In the case of the earliest raw and slabbed books in the set (at which time I was a complete novice so far as collecting and, in particular, grading were concerned) I have included below some information, including the date of purchase and the price , that I hope will be of interest to the reader. I have not looked back through my notes for quite some time and it's interesting to be reminded how modest those prices seem to be now although, taking inflation into account, perhaps they were quite steep then. I would say that at the time £1 was equivalent to between $1.50 to $2.
Each comic was purchased as a slabbed book except where stated below to the contrary.
The set contains Direct Editions copies where Newsstand Editions also exist, and please see my "X-Men Newsstand Editions (1979-1993) in the U.K." set for the Newsstand copies that I have. The exception to this is issue number #360 here which is actually the only Newsstand copy in the set as there is no slot for it in the Newsstand editions set.
