Set Description:
I have always felt Quality Comics as a publisher was appropriately named as they produced some of the best comics of the golden age.
I set out to complete a run of National Comics with Uncle Sam covers plus the eight issue run of Uncle Sam Quarterly before it transitioned to Blackhawk. The USQ set is now complete with all slabbed copies and only few are lacking in the National Comics run. A few raw copies are in hand but surprisingly there are some issues in the 20s and 30s that are stubborn to find in any decent grade.
It seems like I have searched for eons but part of the fun is the quest.
The Lou Fine, Reed Crandall, Alex Kotzy covers (among others) are some of the best around. Issue #7 gets it due but #16, #21, #27 are some of my other favorites. Just stunning and propaganda-rich.
The set contains a few pedigrees and some decent grades but for the most part very presentable mid grade copies as I am more of a completest than a high grade GA collector. Uncle Sam never goes out of style and these books go a long way to affirm the patriotism felt during the war years. What better icon to make a superhero out of than Uncle Sam.
I opted for a close-up of the CGC label instead of a back cover scan because there were so many great creative talents and notes displayed on the label that I wanted to showcase the label in a larger scan.
Enjoy!
