Set Description:
I love the sensibility of these late Golden Age/ early Silver Age books. This book features Private Strong, otherwise known as the patriotic superhero, "The Shield", a character that first appeared in the Golden Age "Pep Comics #1". But the real claim to fame from this series was that it introduced readers to another fun superhero - The Fly.
The point of sentimentality for me is that these characters went on to be published in a series of books in the 90's under the "Impact Comics" imprint. The monthly titles that came out of that DC / Archie Comics partnership are cherished for their simplicity and fun to this day. The Fly was arguably the most lighthearted and accessible superhero translated from Archie for Impact Comics. The concept worked well as a 90's book, and it was visually great with solid art and some style updates to fit the era.
Someday maybe I'll dig in for a higher grade copy of this one, but this book is a simple representation of fandom for me that I'm fairly content with at this time.
I'd love to see something come of the Impact/Red Circle characters again in the future.
