Punisher Armory

Marvel Comics: Jul 1990 - Nov 1994

This right here was so much fun to read back in the 90’s. The idea of publishing a series of books that focused solely on The Punishers weapons and gear was pure genius. I have always been into firearms and military history. I’m sure some of you remember a time before typing in a few key strokes in Google you actually had to go to a library and find what you wanted to research. I would spend hours looking through gun magazines and history books trying to figure out what was used in movies and prior conflicts. This was the best of both worlds for me. Not only did I get my “gun fix” but it was in comic book format narrated by Frank Castle himself. I enjoyed the dry sense of humor, it was the icing on the cake.

I have multiple sets of this book raw in my collection. In 2016 I saw a 9.8 copy of issue #1 up for sale on eBay. I just thought it would be cool to own and the amazing Jim Lee cover really sold me. It wasn’t until a few issues started popping up in 9.8 that I decided that a graded set of these would be fun to acquire. It took me a couple of years but I managed to make it happen. Some of these issues I paid a premium for but never the less I was happy to add them to my collection.

The issue #3 copy you see in this set was the first one graded in 9.8. Same goes for both copies of issue #8. That issue I believe is the lowest number on the census in grade and issue #9 comes in next in terms of rarity. Issue #9 was the last to be added to set and it happens to be one of the few SS copies that currently exist. What you see below is the first and only complete set of this series in 9.8. I’m well aware that its not a must have for 99.99999% of collectors but as a Punisher aficionado to me this was mandatory.

”8 Bit” Punisher

There was an article published by Eliot Brown about the creation of Punisher Armory. He goes through a lot of the in’s and out’s of the creative and legal process of making this series come to life. I thought it was funny that he called out Jim Lee on the weapon The Punisher is holding over his head on the front cover of issue #1. I’m not going to give away any details so I am going to leave a link below for your reading enjoyment.
