Set Description:
Synopsis: This set of Silver Age Plastic Man is currently 75% complete with a minimum grade of 9.4. The highlights of this set are six books came from the Rocky Mountain Collection, three of which, Issues #7-9, are single highest graded examples.
Background: Nobody plagiarizes like comic book writers. In the case of a being who can stretch his body, we have Mr. Fantastic, Elongated Man and Plastic Man. Of the three, the Golden Age version of Plastic Man arrived first, followed by Elongated Man and, last but not least, the most well know leader of the Fantastic Four.
This set is a recent addition to our DC collection. It’s rather different than most superhero titles, as it takes itself much less seriously and is as much a comedy as a serious adventure title. It’s also fairly unique in that the first 10 issues came out in 1966-1968 and DC then takes an 8-year hiatus before publishing Issue #11 in 1976.
We started this set when the opportunity arose to acquire a pedigree run of most of the Silver Age issues. It’s obviously not in the same league as most of our DC sets, but with the recent explosion in popularity (and prices) of all things Marvel, we have started adding DC Silver Age titles when the opportunity arises, just to stay active collecting. We currently own high-grade examples of all the Silver Age issues in this title, but still need five of the later books to complete the set.
