Set Description:

US Comics series, Superworld Comics from Publisher Hugo Gernsback as Kosmos Publishing. Three issues; April, May & August 1940.

Arguably the first all-sf comic, this was Gernsback's short-lived venture into the comics field, launched soon after the Fiction House title Planet Comics made its debut in January 1940. Regular features with cover billing on all three issues were "Buzz Allen, Invisible Avenger", scripted by Charles D Hornig with artwork by Frank R Paul (also responsible for all three covers), "Hip Knox, Super Hypnotist" (see Hypnosis) and the adventures of "Mitey Powers" on the Moon, Mars and Jupiter. The name of another series character, "Marvo 1-2 GO+, The Super Boy", distantly echoed Gernsback's Ralph 124C 41+: A Romance of the Year 2660 (April 1911-March 1912 Modern Electrics; exp as fixup 1925; rev 1950). Poor sales of Superworld Comics led to quick cancellation; it probably suffered from its relative lack of the sensationalism prevalent in Planet Comics and the numerous Superhero titles of the period.
