Well the importance of this run of Marvel Comics Presents issues is obvious – they chronicle Wolverine’s journey through the Weapon X program which led to the acquisition of his adamantium skeleton.
Sometime in mid-2013 I acquired the entire run of 72-84 as a mix of CGC and PGX 9.8s at a price that was simply too good to pass up. My thoughts immediately turned to not only having the PGX copies graded by CGC (despite the obvious risks of 1 or more downgrades), but also to making this run stand out even more than merely being a (hopefully) complete run of Universal 9.8s.
Naturally, my mind drifted to the Signature Series. Since I couldn’t remember seeing any Barry Windsor-Smith appearances scheduled (and I later learned he apparently won’t sign anymore), I quickly decided to have the entire run signed by Stan Lee. The funds and timing worked out so that I could accomplish this between WW Philly and WW Chicago.
The hope of course was that they would all come back as sparkling CGC SS 9.8s. As for how that dream worked out…
