Set Description:
I was first introduced to ElfQuest in the 80s with the full color Starblaze graphic novels and immediately fell in love. ElfQuest holds a special place in my heart as it helped me get through some tough times as a kid. I was a fanatic and even got a letter published in one of the later comics! I always dreamed of owning the original magazines and as an adult I have begun to build what I hope will be the best set in the world. I usually only collect 9.8s with white pages but it is tough to get these indy magazines in top grade. I am always looking to upgrade and am currently working on getting more of the later series graded by CGC.
I am honored to get the 2023 Best Magazine Set Award! Talk about a surprise =)
2024 Update: It has been an exciting year for collecting ElfQuest! A new series is in the works at Fox (fingers crossed it happens and isn't a disaster if it does) which has increased interest. I am noticing many more issues being graded across all the different series. I have been sending in books to CGC when I find good candidates and should have another two dozen there shortly. Most of the issues now have at least 1 copy at 9.8 with white pages. My goal continues to be to get more issues graded so that the supply increases for other collectors. It is nice to have the single highest graded issue of many of these but I want others to be able to collect them as well. Goal for 2024 is to get every 1st print in 9.8 White Pages and get graded copies of the different printings of issue 1-9.
2024 Update 2: It looks like finding all of the different printings is going to be harder than I thought! My understanding has been that for issues 1-5, 1st print have a $1 cover price, 2nd print $1.25, 3rd print $1.50 and 4th have a completely redone cover. What gets more interesting is the reprints of issues 5-9 as 1st print has cover price of $1.25, 2nd print is $1.50, while 3rd print is also $1.50 with a notation for Canadian price. Mycomicshop.com notes that issues 10-21 do not have reprints but I no longer believe this to be the case as I have found variants of multiple issues such as 11 with different colored labels on the cover and notations for Canadian prices on some but not all covers. I have also now heard that many of the first issues have upwards of 7+ printings! I will keep researching!
