Set Description:
I started collecting comic books at a young age during the late 80s/early 90s and while everyone else (including my brother) was infatuated with Marvels and X-Men in particular I found myself always looking to read those pesky DC books. My interests quickly turned to back issues, namely Silver Age books and the first time I saw Showcase 4 and 22 it seemed like a myth. All I could think was how cool are those covers ? Green Lantern had always been my favorite hero and Showcase 22 the "grail" book for me personally as a collector.
Like most I took a break from collecting however when I finally returned to collecting in 2003 I did a couple things: 1- tried to figure out what this new "CGC" grading service was 2- see if any of the old dealers were still around AND 3- finally try and put together one of the best early DC Showcase superhero runs I could. The quest has been long and taken a lot of patience (and is perpetually ongoing) but the end results in my opinion are worth it.
From the Flash to Adam Strange to Green Lantern to the Atom this is the run that defined DC in the Silver Age. DC had in fact "reunited" and recreated the superheroes of old and made them cool again (besides also beginning the Silver Age of comics).
This set in my opinion is one of the finest ever assembled of those specific books. Barring #4 (which is special in it's own right) every other issue listed is either the highest graded or second highest graded copy on the CGC census.
