Set Description:
I've always been a big fan of Wizard magazine when it first came out (as well as its early competitor Hero Illustrated), and felt saddened (albeit not really surprised, admittedly) to hear they were ceasing hard copy publication in 2011. I think Wizard's contribution to the overall resurgence and growth of the industry and hobby is significant. I hope these guys find future success via their digital medium.
Re: this set, I've had a few raw Wizard Ace editions onhand for a few years, thought I'd start up a slabbed set and see how far I could go (prices thus far have been affordable). The set itself is wonderfully diverse, and the books look really great raw. I think is a nice tribute to the originals, many of which (i.e. Avengers #4, Marvel Comics #4) I would never have been able to collect at NM/M grades (and prices!) otherwise. It's also fascinating how this series ended up being a 'barometer' of different series which ended up being either very popular at the time, to those which, well, fizzled out (who else remembers 'Creed')?
Thanks for reading!
