Set Description:
DC Comics celebrated the USA Bicentennial in 1976 by offering a special Superman belt buckle which could be obtained by sending in the tops of specially-marked DC Comics. A total of 33 comics dated July/August of that year were adorned with a red, white, and blue banner at the top. Although I collected all of these comics back then I never did send in for the belt buckle because it meant destroying the comics. Alas, I fell victim to the "Mom throwing out all my comics" syndrome later in my youth :-(
With a second chance to collect all these comics as CGC books, it took over a decade to assemble this set. Initially, I was able to purchase CGC books through auctions but eventually had to pick up raw issues and submit them for grading. That took quite a while, trying to find these comics in high grade but I persevered! With the set now complete, my next mission is to upgrade this set to all CGC 9.8 with white pages. One can hope!
