Set Description:
Well here we are. The X-Men title is on life support, with Marvel seemingly prepared to pull the plug. Rather than pay for any original content, Marvel put the series into re-runs. We all know how this eventually turned out (Chris Claremont, with a big assist from Len Wein, saved us!), but can you imagine a world where the X-Men ceased to be in the mid-1970s?
I was once fascinated with this series to the point of seeking to put a 9.4 and above run together, but as time went on and my focus, not to mention storage space, turned solely to my 1988 and 2003 Wolverine collections, out went all the reprint issues I’d gathered to date (among many others). At one time, I was down to the 9.6 copy of 89, and that one was being aggressively marketed.
And then there was Wizard World New Orleans, circa 2014. Stan Lee was on the line-up, and I happened to have copies of 79, 85, and 86 stashed away with my potential CGC candidates. I looked them over one more time, thought I had some solid VF candidates, and figured what the heck? Let’s have Stan put sharpie to cover, especially since 79 and 86 didn’t have any Signature Series copies in the registry yet.
8.5. 9.4! 9.4, again! Call me shocked.
With those books in hand, I decided it was time to put together a Signature Series run of the reprints. Enjoy.
