[GOOD COP BAD COP: PART 2 OF 2]

In June of 2003, Wolverine issue #189 was released! However, this marked the end of a grand era, as volume 2 came to a close in this final issue!

The cover art, drawn by Esad Ribic, is reminiscent of one of my favorite covers - issue #33! Both covers depict Wolverine bursting his fist with ejected claws through his burial ground in the graveyard! This was the perfect representation in sending the message that Wolverine is ... "Not Dead Yet!"

Other noteworthy facts about this landmark issue, is that the story was written by Daniel Way and the artwork inside the book created by Staz Johnson & Danny Miki.

In closing my commentary about this issue, I really wish Marvel Comics did not end volume 2 at #189. If you think about it, all of the marquee superheroes such as the Amazing Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, etc., were given very long initial volumes in excess of 300 and 400 issues!

Granted, Wolverine was introduced into the Marvel Universe in October of 1974 (i.e., Incredible Hulk #180), which is many years after the other marquee superheroes came into existence. However, Wolverine, next to Spider-Man, is probably the most popular and mainstreamed superhero to date!

It makes me wonder if they were initially worried that Wolverine would possibly not generate the same demand and success of its earlier stars like Spider-Man and Hulk? That might be the reason why they short-changed Wolverine's volume 1 with a "test-the-market" 4-issue mini-series!

Whatever the case, in my personal opinion, Wolverine remains the King of the Marvel Universe and will always be ... "Against All Odds!" (Including Death!)
