NOTES OF INTEREST: There are 6 different covers available for this issue. There are 3 standard covers (McFarlane, Capullo, Portacio) 2 variant covers (McFarlane, Portacio) and a 2nd print edition. This particular variant cover is also known as the "Headless Variant" and was available in extremely limited quantities. Various sources indicate that the press run for this variant was around 1,000 copies.
ISSUE SYNOPSIS: - Endgame (part 1 of 12)
Finding a gateway in Hell that will lead him back home, Spawn begins to carry out a plan to permanently resolve his problems. Elsewhere, a comatose patient awakens, much to the surprise and dismay of those around him. A series of messages related to the man’s awakening leads to the suicide of at least one person. Only time will tell if there is a relationship between Spawn and the mysterious patient, who seems to be surrounded by shadowy characters.
REFLECTIONS: Due to its limited print-run, this is also a fairly difficult variant to find. The "headless" variant is among the most prized of them all. I eventually found two raw copies and had them pressed and dry-cleaned by Matt Nelson. Both books received a CGC grade of 9.8 (near-mint/mint). I kept one copy and sold the other for a very reasonable price. To the very best of my knowledge, this is the only book in my collection to have ever been pressed.
