I've had (and I'm sure all of you have had) many occasions when you've made a bid at auction that looked like a winning bid when at the last minute (I mean second) another bid comes in and you lose. This was the same situation (and a different situation) all with this one book. Way back in May of 2011 I had won a 9.0 of JLA#6, so 7 months later when a 9.4 comes to auction, I want to win it. I find bidding is tricky - there can be a fine line between getting in a strong bid early and having others bid you up or getting a strong bid late and not giving others the time to outbid you. In the case of the 9.4 (which I wanted), I played the game of waiting until near the end of the auction before bidding. It came back to bite me in the a** when my last minute bid was not enough and I lost out by $100. Fast forward almost 6 months later and a 9.2 comes to auction. I put my bid out fairly early, not something I felt would hold up. The auction closing came and went and I FORGOT all about it. I check my emails the next day and discover that my bid held up and I had won the 9.2! It was a nice surprise as this wasn't the first time I forgot the closing of an auction (I try not to do that anymore). This is tied for the THIRD highest grade on the census, with only 3 others grading higher (one 9.6 and two 9.4's). There was a $4,500 difference in the price between the 9.4 and 9.2, so I guess that's good?!?
