I had a 9.8 copy of this printing previously; I got lost in the excitement of finding these later printings in 9.8 grade, so I paid more than I really should have. I also had a few copies of this fourth printing as a kid, so I remember this iconic cover with the green title logo more than the first print. I got these from the various collectors' packs I scored at Toys "R" Us as an 11 to 12 year-old. One pack I had contained the seven issues that made up 'Doomsday', the first part of the Death and Return of Superman saga. The flimsy cardboard box the issues came in had a large window, displaying the waiving cape and the green 'Superman' logo, the cover of the 4th printing to Superman #75. There were also many two packs with a flimsy cardboard divider separating the issues, showing many 4th prints for #75. I sold my first 9.8 copy to help accommodate the purchase of a really special book, but I kind of missed it.
I purchased this book raw at Aamazing Fantasy Comics in Littleton, Colorado. I was in the area visiting some childhood friends so I researched shops nearby on the Collectors Society boards. A large collection of high grade DCs had just been acquired and I picked out several books. I submitted this along with Action Comics #685 Second Printing for grading at the 2016 Denver Comic. This book not only replaces my previous graded copy, this also carries a good memory of my visit with childhood friends, going to the Denver Comic Con for the first time, and was also apart my first submission to yield 9.8 grades.
Superman #75 has four printings, a poly-bagged collector’s edition and a platinum edition. Superman #75 sold around three million copies and is reprinted in The Death of Superman (1993) and Superman: The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus (2013).
