First appearance of Doomsday in cameo on last page.
"Somewhere else... Doomsday is coming!"
This issue always had a mystique with me, which is more nostalgic versus being the first appearance of Doomsday in cameo. I searched several comic shops in 1994/95 as a kid for this issue, I finally found a copy, I was so excited to finally have it that I did not realized the copy I found was a second printing. The four Superman titles dated November, 1992 with the Doomsday teasers on the last pages were difficult for me to track down.
I remember a trading card featuring Doomsday, with the back noting his first appearance in Man of Steel #17. I also saw a cover image in a guide, being intrigued by the simple cover; I had to have a copy. As an adult, I’m still attached to the cover, I enjoy having this piece. I not only got this piece for the lowest GPA price to date, this was also one of the first copies to be graded 9.8. I enjoy the freshness and coloring of this piece and now I can say that I have the first appearance of Doomsday (cameo) as well as the first full appearance in Man of Steel #18, the 12-year old inside of me is ecstatic.
Won on eBay: 12/16/2012 - $34.05
Grade Date: 05/17/2011
This issue has a second printing and the last page (Doomsday teaser) is reprinted in The Death of Superman (1993) and Superman: The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus (2013).
