Owner's Description

"Funeral for a Friend - Part 4: Metropolis Mailbag II"
February, 1993

Dan Jurgens story
Dan Jurgens & Brett Breeding cover & art

In mid-1994, as I was catching up on this storyline, my older brother, out of state, hooked me up with several “Funeral” and “Reign of the Supermen” back issues from his LCS. This cover really stood out when I first saw the comics my brother had gotten me. I was struck by how sad this cover made me feel, "Funeral for a Friend” had some amazing cover art and Superman #76 is one of the best. I enjoy covers from all comic book eras that show other superheroes. The back cover ad for the Terminator 2 arcade game really takes me back, my brother took me a midnight showing when the film was released. Superman # 76 packages a plethora of nostalgia for me.

“Metropolis Mailbag II” summary:

Each year at Christmas Superman would sort through thousands of letters sent to him from people around the world seeking his aid (see Superman (Vol. 2) #64 (Feb. 1992) "Metropolis Mailbag"). In Superman's absence other heroes of the DC Universe step in to fill the void, helping people track down long lost loved ones, rebuilding homes destroyed in Doomsday’s deadly rampage and delivering toys to charity.

Grade Date: 09/22/2016

Superman #76 has a second printing and is reprinted in World Without A Superman (1993) and Superman: The Death and Return of Superman Omnibus (2013).
