Owner's Description

The Set: This book is difficult to find in high grade. Low print runs, (Industry legend- I do not have access to print run information on LW&C and can't seem to find any. If anyone knows print run information and would like to share it, please join the conversation in the companion journal, "Ogami and Sons' Samurai Services" in the journal section of CGC's chat boards) combined with notoriously ill kept copies due to low interest and monetary value for decades, created an environment in which finding high grade copies for issues 25-45 can be difficult.

The Book: Priced at $3.25, the final issue was $1.25 higher than the first issue, just four years earlier. That gives you some indication of First Publishing's economic woes as well as the print run at the end.

I remember this cover as a teen- it was one of my least favorites. I didn't know who Ray Lago was and he seemed to me to be the very definition of a fill in artist. Needless to say, my opinion of him, now more informed, has risen considerably. This copy was a gift from Sean, and signed by Lago in New York on 10/10/13. In many ways, I consider this the rarest of my signed books, thus far. I've only seen one other yellow label Lago, (an Avengers book) and he is at an advanced age and does not typically attend shows. Reaching a rare sig while maintaining a 9.8 grade on a low print run book feels like an accomplishment.

The Cover: This cover has grown on me. Lago has created a lot of great work, in and outside of the industry, but is known for his Vamperilla, Robcop, good and bad girl art, and Aliens cover art. His painting style is very traditional and looks great. His signature, done in gold, is perfectly placed and matches the brown, gold, and green hues of the piece.

The Story: "The Shichiri are soldiers appointed to deliver messages between The Lord of the han and the Shogun himself. For "The Shichiri Man," the highway is a battlefield and his duty is his life! But this messenger's unwavering loyalty to his office has caused the death of his unnamed son. And now the mother of the child, vowing revenge, turns to the Lone Wolf for help."

Second Pic: If my awareness of Lone Wolf and Cub had ended here, I wouldn't be as passionate about the series as I am. Without Mike Richardson picking up the reigns and Dark Horse Comics completing the epic story, there is no passion, no set, no importance of this book. Please see my companion journal for the full story on how a failed First Publishing comic book series became the English Translation success that it is now.
