ACTION COMICS #309 CGC 9.2-JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY ISSUE

Here is a story that called for Superman and Clark Kent to appear side by side on national television. In order to preserve the integrity of his dual role, the Man of Steel raced to find someone who could pose as Clark. Readers were kept in suspense regarding Superman's regarding Superman's elegant solution until the story's final panels, when "Clark" revealed himself to be none other than then-President John F. Kennedy. In the words of Superman himself, "I knew I wasn't risking my secret identity with you! After all, if I can't trust the President of the United States, who can I trust?" That America's two most powerful men shared the nation's greatest secret was a charming notion. Unfortunately, DC Comics was caught short by Kennedy's tragic and untimely death, and this issue of Action Comics, though published in mid-month and cover dated January, hit most newsstands days after that fateful November afternoon. Out of respect, DC immediately shelved a sequel of sorts that was already at the printer-until President Johnson insisted that it be run in a later issue of Superman as a tribute to JFK and his legacy. All the same, from that day forward, the chief executives who rule Superman's America have generally been portrayed as nameless, generic statesmen in order not to offend the dignity of the office of the President of The United States of America. (Action Comics # 371, 390 and 405)

This is a very TOUGH book to find in high grade and is a HISTORICAL issue.

The Cover was dated February 1964 and went on sale on December 26, 1963 just days after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States of America in Dallas, Texas. JFK was assassinated on Friday, November 22nd, 1963 at 1230 hrs Central Standard Time. Kennedy was fatally shot by a sniper while traveling with his wife Jacqueline, Texas Governor John Connally, and Connally's wife Nellie, in a presidential motorcade. A ten-month investigation from November 1963 to September 1964 by the Warren Commission concluded that Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone, and that Jack Ruby also acted alone when he killed Oswald before he could stand trial. The weapon used to assassinate JFK was a 6.5 × 52 mm Italian Carcano M91/38 bolt-action rifle.

In contrast to the conclusions of the Warren Commission, the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) concluded in 1978 that Kennedy was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy. The HSCA found the original FBI investigation and the Warren Commission Report to be seriously flawed. While agreeing with the Commission that Oswald fired all the shots which caused the wounds to Kennedy and Connally, the HSCA stated that there were at least four shots fired (only three of which could be linked to Oswald) and that there was "...a high probability that two gunmen fired at the President."

The cover price was 12 cents but this book is truely priceless and rare.It had 32 pages. The Editor was Mort Weisinger, Cover Penciller was Curt Swan and Cover Inker was Sheldon Moldoff.
