Owner's Description

The Set: The first book obtained in this set was issue 12, a gift from Sean, late in 2012. The next two books obtained were this one and 37, with help from Sean, via Rich Henn, to Ploog in London, on 3/2/13. At the time, I had the idea of getting two books signed from each cover artist, for a total of nine (Lago only did one cover)- a very conservative set goal.

The Book: This was an original owner book! I remember Rich telling Sean over the phone, "Listen...I'm sorry, but one of the Ploog's came back a 9.2..." for Sean to explain that this book had done quite a bit of travel and been owned, loved, and read many times, so no worries.

The Cover: If I were typifying LW&C covers, I would call this a, "Daigoro in Danger" cover. It is a classic cover in which Itto is fighting in the foreground, with all four characters defined in sharp detail, while Daigoro, tiniest of figures, is shadowed in fog and distance. This is a typical Japanese style of painting, with equal emphasis on foreground and background, in terms of importance of image, while the techniques used showcase the spatial differences.

The Story: "While searching the countryside for his father, Daigoro is befriended by a lonely old woman who lives under a dilapidated bridge. She believes her life is tied to an "Ailing Star"- a star that's in danger of flickering out when the villagers who've ignored her for years try to force her to move to make way for a new bridge."

Notes from Sean: The journey taken by these two books was amazing. Purchased by Ogami at his LCS in Slidell, Louisiana, they stayed in his collection for decades until this project cranked up. They made a quick trip to Ohio for some SS prep and pregrading, and then to Rich Henn in Maryland. Rich packed them up and flew them to London. They were placed in front of cover artist Mike Ploog at the London SuperCon. Mike placed his clean and simple signature on both copies. From London, they came back over the pond, spent a little time in Sarasota, Florida getting graded and slabbed and made their way back into the ultimate Lone Wolf collection in Mississippi.
