ISSUE SYNOPSIS: - A Season in Hell (part 3 of 4)
Hell erupted into civil war and chaos after Spawn killed Malebolgia. The Violator and his brethren attempted to seize the vacant throne but were unable to maintain control. Now that Spawn is back in Hell, the Violator demands that Spawn abdicate the throne. If he refuses, Spawn will face suffering and torment beyond anything he has previously experienced. Fortunately for Spawn, Cogliostro is also in Hell, where he continues to offer advice in regards to the complex web of events in which they are trapped.
CENSUS REPORT: Tied for top census copy as of 6/13
NUMBER OF SALES: 45,953 preorders reported by Diamond Comic Distributors (22nd place)
REFLECTIONS: I think this may very well be among my top two or three Spawn covers at all time. Capullo's art makes Spawn seem decrepit, magical, powerful, and creepy. The color scheme is excellent with a swathe of rich blues, crimson, black, and neon green. A truly striking cover.
