Owner's Description
Original solicitation: Has there always been a 'Runaways?' No. Then what does the above cover mean? You're going to have to read it to find out, True Believers. Joss Whedon (ASTONISHING X-MEN, Buffy) and Michael Ryan (NEW EXCALIBUR) bring you more twists and turns as the Runaways go somewhere they've never been before."
Using the artifact they stole, the kids manage to run away from their pursuers, but end up going back in time - to 1907 New York City. There, they meet a gang of other "Wonders"and find themselves caught in the middle of meta-human gang war.
Gallery B-Side: The first appearance of Klara Prast, the "Scrappy-Doo" of the Runaways.
Fun fact: Scrappy-Doo has become the symbol of an irritatingly overexuberant or cute character added to a series in an attempt to maintain ratings, a phenomenon also known as "Cousin Oliver Syndrome." In fact, because of the character's well-known unpopularity, characters added to a fictional work who were meant to be taken well, but actually are received poorly, are known as "Scrappies."
