Don & Maggie Thompson Collection. "Meet Tornado Tot!"
Boy am I happy that Don & Maggie collected everything. Sugar & Spike may not be the most collectable title in the go-go check set, but Sheldon Mayer fans can be rabid. Personally, I think the little twerps aren't that funny, although some of the cover gags can be quite good. This one falls short of the best ones by a good measure - even though the premise is good. The line work is typical of Sheldon - clean lines nothing extraneous, the colors are strong and the overall composition is good. Although there is typically a lot of word balloons on Sugar & Spike covers, there are not a lot of text boxes - and I think if there are going to be words on my cover, I prefer that they are word/thought balloons to text. Overall, I can't imagine selecting this to spend my hard earned twelve cents on as a youth.
