Owner's Description
This issue has a great cover featuring fishmen, a triangle shaped sun, a damsel in distress, and her hero blasting a laser gun shot through a fishman in the background. What’s not to like about this one? This is the first issue in the run where it went down to 60 pages. Also, this is the first issue where the story lines of Flint Baker and Reef Ryan were combined into one story line from this issue on. Their story revolves around a villain named Brox who is leading a group of giant Neanderthal monsters. Either Flint or Reef saves the day in a twist, so you will have to read this one to figure out which one is the hero and gets the girl. In the Gale Allen story, she is sent to Margravia (you gotta love these crazy names) to deliver a pardon to a Scientist named Izmet. While there, the queen of the land takes issue with Gale and is set to execute her (scene on cover of issue) when Captain Saracen negotiates her release. This is one of the few times I can remember where the “bad guys” don’t get destroyed or even pay for their ruthless behavior. The people of Margravia all live to fight another day as Gale and the Captain fly off. Star Pirate story is good, but I just can’t get past his partner Trody and his one eye. Auro deals with the Purple People in his story. Mars, God of War is cool. In this one he takes over a man named Rex who is upset after not being named an officer on a space convoy expedition. His jealousy (and the fact he was possessed by Mars) is what drives him to start mutiny. In the end, Rex’s bad decisions come crumbling down on him as Mars escapes his body. My favorite, Lost World, is set in the ruins of New York City. Hunt and Lyssa are looking for oscillator tubes to fix an old radio to try and contact other planets for help against the Volta. Interesting panels in this story show the NY Naval yard, Lyssa faking a broken leg to escape, Volta using a carrier pigeon to communicate, Empire state building in ruins, two panels of arrows lodged into Volta men’s chest, and Volta men dying while being gassed with toxic flames. Old movie reels end up being a crucial part to this story, but your will have to read this one to figure out why, who, and how they are used. This issue is rated by Gerber as 7, so I am extra excited to own this one.
