Owner's Description
The Set: I have had Bill Sienkiewicz sign books on two occasions thus far. This book was from the first signing on 3/23/14.

The Book: I love Bill's long flowing wave of a signature that he placed vertically on these covers. His placement and sizing is perfect, and this is one of his best.

The Cover: I personally think Bill is the best of the Daigoro artists (excepting Goseki, of course). His full cheeks and sullen expressions (Shishogan eyes) combined with his diminutive form create a true dichotomy with his killing machine of a father. Sienkiewicz is a master and this cover is glorious. I don't know if these covers were oils, acrylics, or watercolors, but they are amazing. The First Publishers are to be commended for their orange sidebar complementing the aquamarine of Sienkiewicz's water. The Art Director of the series, Alex Wald, did a great job making the series look as good as it deserved. The sidebar header, calligraphy style title, and emphasis on the original creators made LW&C stand out on the shelves then, and retain its status now.

Shishogan: "The eyes of a swordsman become one with the emptiness of mu, alive in the moment between life and death...the eyes of one who has come in from death, across countless fields of slaughter." "Parting Frost"
Second Pic: This is the 6 volume set of movies made in the late seventies, at a height of LW&C popularity. Koike was personally involved in these films. The actor who plays Itto is Tomisaburo Wakayama, a portly, round faced, not attractive man, (who looks nothing like Itto should) who is nevertheless athletic and a strong actor! The actor who played Daigoro, Akihiro Tomikawa, is perfectly casted.
