I acquired this piece through an eBay auction that I didn’t watch that closely. I didn't find the cover appealing but it was #700, and the gold edition, so I entered a low bid to start out with. I decided to forget about the auction to focus on other items, in the end I got this one for only $16.50.

This issue originally came in the old red "modern grade" label, that was only used in the first year or so of CGC's existence. Unfortunately the case had several scratches which really diminished the eye appeal, so I sent this one in for a new holder.

I didn't realize what I had until I set up this set in the registry. I still can’t believe that the least expensive book I have is one the the most valuable in terms of registry points. After seeing some recent sales results for other 9.8 copies of this "Gold Edition," I have a new found respect for my copy, the cover has also grown on me.

I have tried to research the story behind this Gold Edition, I do not remember seeing or hearing about this edition as a 12 year old in 1994. I do recall seeing several signed copies of the newsstand edition distributed by Dynamic Forces at the time, but not this edition. Overstreet also lists a Platinum Edition for this comic but it looks like Action Comics #700 "gold", "premium" and "platinum" are the same editions.
