Owner's Description

The cover says it all... pretty sad times but thank God that Superman was able to stop Doomsday in the process of giving his life. I remember getting chills the first time I read For This is the Day... That a Superman Died at the conclusion of the battle with Doomsday. It was very strange, but I felt a sense of loss and wished I had been able to let Superman know how much he had meant to everyone, and how much his sacrifice was appreciated. Something about this story definitely sparked something in me and has made me a lifelong collector of Superman ever since.

This book replaced a Universal Label book that was one of the first books that I had already graded 9.8 when I registered this set. I decided to replace that book with this Signature Series because I really liked the placement of the gold signature on the cover. The majority of the ss books of this issue have a black signature right in the center of the cape so this one just looked really nice to me. My set was also already at 100% completion so I will keep my eyes open for other ss books that look nice to slowly upgrade slots, but only if I think the book/signature combination looks nice, not just for the sake of having a ss book. I paid $120.00 for this book from My Comic Shop which I think was really fair.

The second image is of the last 10 cent Superman issue, which was intended to be an imaginary story where Lex Luthor tricks everyone into thinking he has turned over a new leaf and then when everyone's guard is down kills Superman. I had found a raw copy of this about 25 years ago for a few dollars. I was pretty excited until I read it and realized the middle page (where Superman actually dies) was missing. I later obtained another raw copy and submitted it to CGC; this image is the result of that submission. It's a relatively low grade but I like that I found it in the wild and submitted it myself. I included it here because these are both issues where Superman dies, albeit by completely different means.
