Owner's Description

Ideal Comics #3 is referenced in Fredric Wertham’s “Seduction of the Innocent” (SOTI) in the text on page 310.

On page 310, Wertham is recounting the inaccuracies of history themed comics and mentions that “the end of the Boer War is wrongly presented, while the story has such choice bits as ‘You dirty British swine!’” Wertham’s reference to the Boer War is taken from the story “The Soil of Africa Weeps” contained in Ideal Comics #3. The story recounts the Boer War, a conflict fought in South Africa between farmers (Boers) rebelling against British rule. There were actually two wars, the first ranging from 1880-81 and the second spanning from 1899-1902. I have included scan of the page that contains the “British swine” quote that Wertham references in the SOTI.
