Owner's Description

Planet Comics #53 is referenced in Fredric Wertham’s “Seduction of the Innocent” (SOTI) in the text on page 32. Here Wertham describes how the themes of jungle book comics are extended into science fiction books and cites an example from Planet Comics #53 “In the jungle books the jungle is not really a place but a state of mind. It is easily transposed into outer space in the interplanetary and science-fiction books. The girls are similarly dressed and similarly treated. Torture is more refined. If someone is to be blinded its is done with some extra scientific instrument: ‘Now, ye Maid of Auro reveal where the thorium has been hidden or my electric prong will burn the eyes from your pretty head’”.

The reference comes from the story “Auro Lord of Jupiter – Goz is Coming” contained in Planet Comics #53. Wertham incorrectly quotes the story as he used the term “Maid of Auro” when the correct quote is “Mate of Auro”.
