Owner's Description

Western Adventures #3 is referenced in Fredric Wertham’s “Seduction of the Innocent” (SOTI) in the text on pages 30-31. Wertham describes the comic as follows “In another Western, one man has gold dust thrown in his eyes (an example of what I call the injury-to-the-eye motif, this being a very frequent feature in comic books).”

The injury to eye story Wertham references is entitled “Bud Steele The Cross-Drawn Kid Exposes the Hoax of the Jester” and is the first story contained in Western Adventures #3. I have included a scan of the page with the gold dust to eye panel.
