This piece first caught my eye as an eBay Buy It Now listing in 2006 or 2007. The price kept dropping and I kept waiting. Then one day the item was no longer listed. Other 9.8 copies popped up here and there but there was always something distracting, like off-white pages or a miswrapped cover.

A few years later a 9.8 copy with white pages and a perfectly centered cover surfaced on eBay. It turned out to be the copy I missed out on originally. I am so pleased to have gotten a second chance to add this piece to my collection. This was also one of my first early Bronze Age examples, purchased during the first few years of my CGC collecting.

I use terms like "classic cover" and "key" conservatively when it comes to comics books. I'm wondering if this cover could be designated as a true Bronze Age classic cover. The cover has been reproduced on t-shirts, posters and appears in several Superman related books showcasing various comic covers. The Human Target backup story is reprinted in Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman the Deluxe Edition by Various, 2018.
