I bought this one straight off the shelf, as I was already collecting the Edge of Spider-Verse series. When Spider-Gwen exploded, it was an easy decision to get this slabbed. I bought a different copy for a reader.

This is one of the most prized books in my entire collection. I bought this variant simply because I liked it, well before Spider-Gwen took off. I've always enjoyed Land's work, and this cover was just beautiful to me. I never opened the book and sent it straight out to CGC to be graded. Super excited to get a 9.8!
But the then the decision came. Land was going to be at the Long Beach Comic Con! One of my favorite artists, and a big reason why I bought the variant in the first place. So the question became, do I crack out this 9.8 and get Land to sign it, risking it dropping to a 9.6 or even 9.4? After spending weeks thinking about it, I finally decided that I'd more regret not trying to reach a holy grail of Spider-Gwen as opposed to playing it safe. The weeks it took to grade and ship back seemed to be the longest of my life! But when it retained the 9.8 grade with Land's sig...it was all worthwhile.
