A Valiant Effort Sir!

Set Description
This custom set is a collection of all of the 1990’s Valiant Comics and the on-going comics after the 2012 launch. I was around 14 years old when Valiant started in the early 1990's. I was a fan of the Incredible Hulk and Amazing Spider-Man at the time but I got a copy of the free Unity number zero and was hooked from that point on. I was able to get many of the pre-unity books at that time as my local comic shop, Same Bat Channel in the Sangertown Mall in Utica, NY still had them and the prices were still reasonable. I worked on a farm at that time and any money I raised went primarily to Valiant comics. Sure, there were the momentary lapses (Amazing Spider-Man 361 comes to mind) but most of the money I saved went towards those comics. When I see a copy of Harbinger #10 or Rai #0 today I can immediately visualize the comic rack from that store in 1992 or 1993. I can see the copy of Solar #10 with its black embossed cover in stark contrast to all the other colors around it. I am sure it is the same feeling that many collectors and fans older than me get when they see a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 (nostalgia feeling that is). I would love to be able to say I saw an X-Men 1 on a spinner at the local store or a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 but alas, it was not my time. The Valiant books are what I saw at that time and give me that feeling. It of course is not monetarily the same from a collector’s point of view but I get a great feeling whenever I see some of the earlier issues of Valiant comics. I left home in the summer of 1995 to join the Army. I went from NY to KY to GA for training and all the while I left my comic collection at home. My first duty assignment took me to Germany. I was there about 4 years and opted to stay another 3. I went home on leave and sent my comics to Germany in 2001. They arrived none the worse for wear. I wasn't really buying any new comics after 1996, I would just read the comics I purchased prior to my enlistment. It stayed this way until about 2012 when I heard that Valiant was going to be re-launched. The re-launch has gotten me back into purchasing comics. This in turn got me into getting my Valiant collection graded. I place my books up here in the registry not really to compete but as a means of cataloging. Most of my books have been dinged up but I have been blessed to have most grade 9.2 or higher. I have purchased some graded books as well but I generally like to submit mine from my original collection. I have viewed many Valiant collections in the registry and there are some great collectors with some great sets out there. Thanks for viewing my custom set and I hope you have a great day.
