My breakdown of issue 750

Wonder Woman issue 750 is a 96 page extra sized spectacular deluxe edition issue for the start of the legacy renumbering. If you add all the issues from volume 1 to volume 5 you would come up with 749 issues. Issue 750 is the start to get us to issue 1,000 as DC did with Superman and Batman. This is fitting to include Wonder Woman to complete the trinity of DC’s starting heroes. Within this issue we find 9 different stories by multiple writers and artists:

“The Wild Hunt” Finale
Written By: Steve Orlando
Art By: Jesus Merino

In this story that concludes the current story line we find Hera, Cheetah and Wonder Woman in battle and taken into a world of truth built by the lasso of truth so each can air out their grievances truthfully. Wonder Woman uses this advantage to get Cheetah to submit and quit her battle as she runs away. Wonder Woman tells Hera she doesn’t need her anymore and returns to Themyscira to place the God Killer sword in her mother’s care while re-forging her broken bracelets into new ones. In conclusion Wonder Woman redefines her mission to that as a mission for truth. We do get a surprise twist at the end with Boston police at her apartment to arrest her and leaving the cliff hanger for another story arc to start up.

“From Small Things, Mama”
Written By: Gail Simone
Art By: Colleen Doran

We find Star Blossom helping to rescue children from a burning building when Wonder Woman shows up to help. Afterwards Wonder Woman is invited to dinner with Star Blossom and her parents when Queen Hyppolyta shows up with bad news about the passing of a great megalodons shark that Diana grew up with. But Star Blossom help console Wonder Woman’s grief and they ended the issue with all happy returning to dinner.

“The Interrogation”
Written By: Mariko Tamaki
Art By: Elena Casagrande

Wonder Woman is being interrogated in a police station when the officer turns out to be Ares the God of War and in turn gets interrogated and captured by Wonder Woman.

“Never Change”
Written By: Greg Ruka
Art By: Nicola Scott

Its Mardi Gras in New Orleans French Quarter and Wonder Woman meets up with Circ for help in changing Cheetah back into Barbara Ann, Cheetah refuses to be changed back and Wonder Woman pledges to never give up on her.

“To Leave Paradise”
Written By: Kami Garcia
Art By: Phil Hester

Here we get a basic retelling of a young Dianna wondering what the world of men is like and the story ending with a plane falling out of the sky.

“Emergency Visit”
Written By: Shannon Hale & Dean Hale
Art By: Riley Rossmo

Wonder Woman battles with Kalibak and gets a call via the Justice League that she is needed on Themyscira to help fight a Hydra that as it turns out was purposely set loose by Queen Hyppolyta as a method to get a visit from her daughter.

“To Me”
Written By: Marguerite Bennett
Art By: Laura Braga

A simple story of the DC Bombshell girls, each one is separately telling their relationship between themselves and of Wonder Woman.

“Always”
Written By: Vita Ayala
Art By: Amancay Nahuelpan

Story of Vanessa Kapatelis an ARGUS inpatient who used to be the Silver Swan, this story goes back to issue 38 of Wonder Woman rebirth and is a really good must read arc. We get a small glimpse of the retailing of the original story with a current visit from Wonder Woman checking in on her and how she is doing today.

“A Brave New World”
Written By: Scott Snyder
Art By: Bryan Hitch

It’s 1939 at the New York World’s Fair and President Roosevelt is making a speach when an assassination attempt on him is stopped by Wonder Woman who announces herself and her willingness to help stop a war that is about to come. My breakdown of issue 57

The Witching Hour story arc part 4 honestly made little to no sense in this issue without reading the full event. Mostly here we find Wonder Woman trapped in Hecate’s mind represented as a moon, John Constantine tries to free her only to end up possibly killing her.

My breakdown of issue 1

Issue 1 is a fast and really great read, just the type of first issue you’d expect from Geoff Johns. While page one is the generic recap back story of how Billy got his powers, the issue shows us that this is one year later from when Billy not only got his powers but also a year after his foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Vasquez brought him to live with them. It’s also important to note that this series story line basically takes place 1 year after the 2019 Shazam movie, so if you haven’t read this series yet please watch the movie first.
During the issue the group goes to the Rock of Eternity after dinner and finds a room that had once not existed is now available to them; The Station. Within The Station they also discover the Map of the Magiclands on the wall and get the power turned on to the area as well.
We find this issue ending with Mr. and Mrs. Vasquez answering the front door with a visitor stating that he is Billy’s father.

My breakdown of issue 23

The conclusion to the truth story arc was interesting to say the least, but felt it could have been just a bit better. We learn that Ares was imprisoned by Aphrodite because he went mad for war. And when he battled Wonder Woman in the earlier issues it really wasn’t him but his sons.
Wonder Woman defeats the Ares sons Phobes and Deimos with love and Dr. Kales daughter cant return to her home but must stay in Themyscira. And we see a way too brief final page with Wonder Woman and the Queen exchanging each other’s name and the Queen saying, “You always make me proud.” as the Queen walks away. You’d think they would at least embrace and talk more, this issue could have ended a lot better especially after 23 issues building up to the two of them meeting again for the first time since Diana left home.

My breakdown of issue 15

Our story starts off with Wonder Woman admitted to the Nightsong psychiatric hospital in London, still catatonic and the staff believing that the patient Diana Prince is delusional think herself to be Wonder Woman. Diana has visions of a snake coming out from the snake bite in her arm and talking to her.
On Themyscira the Amazons go to high alert when a mysterious tree appears from nowhere over night.
Steve, Etta and Dr. Minerva are held up in a hotel room after their escape from the Godwatch made up of the Mercenary group Poison lead by Adriana who works for Dr. Veronica Cale, plus we discover that Dr. Minerva years ago work with Godwatch for a short period.
By the end their hotel room gets attacked and Steve with Etta makes an escape while Dr. Minerva purposely stays behind to be taken to Cale. My breakdown of issue 13

This issue was pretty straight forward with lots of dialogue, pretty much Wonder Woman is in a state of shock from learning that she has never truly been home to Themyscira. Steve calls for back up to pick them up from the island and it turns out HQ has been breached and attacked. Adriana from the mercenary group "Poison" is under contract from Dr. Veronica Cale who arrived to the island from learning its location at the HQ attack and picked up the trail of Wonder Woman and Steve. They shoot Steve in the leg and as they are about to secure into a transport, the helicopter is attacked and Steve and Wonder Woman get rescued. At the end of the issue Steve admits Wonder Woman into a Psychiatric hospital since she’s still in shock while he goes out to find and help Etta.

My breakdown of issue 4

Story arc Year One Part Two takes off with a story we all know so well already. We are in Themyscira with the Amazons helping with Steve Trevor’s recovery, The Amazons try to decipher the meaning of the Gods for bringing a man to their island paradise and who will return him?

We see within the story the games in the arena of Amazons fighting for a champion that befalls to Princess Diana. They repair Steve’s plane and makes it invisible for safety while Diana emerges in her new outfit and given the golden lasso of truth to carry with her. Diana says her goodbye’s and departs for the world of men.

This issue was ok, I understand how it was needed to be printed in this volumes reboot of Wonder Woman but we have read it, seen it and know about it already for a long time. Mostly this issue seemed to be more of a filler issue, but understandable why they printed it. Nothing about this issue really stuck out or strikes a cord with me except maybe the panels talking about Steve’s Navy Seal patch and how it has Poseidon’s Trident in the eagle’s talons while the eagles head is bowed down as a symbol of how we don’t look for war but are ready for it when needed, similar to the symbolism of the eagle on the one dollar bill.

My breakdown of issue 35

Times past is a story showing us the secret origin of Wonder Woman’s brother Jason. Well maybe the not so secret, most of this issue just recapped what we learned in the last issue with the exception that he was trained by Hercules and when he was just becoming a man his adoptive father Claucus just up and left as he says he does every few centuries, but not before telling him to be careful, live and bestowing him a gift of a new boat. At the end of the issue Jason is on his boat fishing when the Deep Six come out of the ocean to attack him.
